Volunteer Opportunities at MSLC

Become a volunteer tutor. Our program is largely based on dedicated and talented community members who donate their time and energy to working one-on-one or in small groups with adult students of Basic Literacy or ESL (English as a Second Language). Basic tutors deliver instruction on job skills, math and money skills, and/or reading everyday media such as labels, ads, schedules, magazines, and recipes. ESL tutors deliver instruction on fundamentals of English conversation and writing, listening skills, cultural acclimation, and situational English such as how to speak with a doctor or a child's teacher. Tutors participate in tutor training on instructional strategies and lesson planning. Tutors also receive orientation on our instructional materials and have continued professional support from our experienced program directors. Tutors are asked to meet with a student for at least 2 hours a week. Contact one of our offices about becoming a tutor.

Become an office volunteer. Volunteers are always needed to help our staff in serving the public and supporting our tutors and program directors. We need both regular (same time each week - minimum 1 hour/week) and occasional (we call you whenever we need some extra help - you always have the option of declining) volunteers. Contact one of our offices about becoming an office volunteer.
