Mid-State Literacy Council – Executive Director

The Mid-State Literacy Council is seeking a dynamic, strategic thinker to be the next Executive Director. Mid-State Literacy Council, located in State College, PA, is a nonprofit organization created in 1971 to provide literacy resources and support to adults in Centre and Clearfield Counties. We believe that literacy is essential for individuals to achieve safety, personal goals, and active participation in the community. With the help of 200 trained volunteers and a professional staff, we offer privately funded one-to-one tutoring and classes, serving over 200 adult learners per year and empowering thousands of area adults in its more than 50-year history. Our programs have positively impacted lives by promoting employment opportunities, improving health, and supporting children’s success in school.

We are looking for someone with 3-5 years of experience in managing a non-profit organization with a small staff and a legion of volunteer tutors. The Director will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization, developing and implementing strategic plans, and fostering community relationships. The Executive Director will also be responsible for fundraising, budget management, program development, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in nonprofit management or a related field
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities
  • Experience in fundraising and grant writing
  • Knowledge of literacy issues and adult education
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Nonprofit Management) preferred
